London's Hidden Gems

After reading about some of London’s best hidden gems in The Concierge Magazine, it inspired me to make my own recommendations of London’s best kept secrets including some of their suggestions along with my own. It’s a wonderful way to avoid the crowds and uncover the endless list of lesser known places the capital has to offer, slightly off the beaten track.

The Concierge Magazine recommends Richmond Park located in South West London. It is the biggest of the eight Royal Parks of London. The parks were originally owned by the monarchy of the United Kingdom for the recreation of the royal family, and today it is the largest enclosed space in London. The park also has a beautiful woodland garden ‘The Isabella Plantation’, full of exotic plants that are grown all year long. As the park is also a National Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and a Special Area of Conservation it is also great for bird watching and other wildlife. If you’re lucky you might spot the herds of Red and Fallow deer that roam freely through the park.

Little Venice as the name suggests is a canal area where Grand Union and Regent’s Canals meet. The small canal side restaurants, bars, cafes and market stalls make you think you’re miles away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby busy streets. If you wish to take a boat trip there is a waterbus service that operates from Little Venice eastwards around Regent's Park, stopping off at London Zoo along its way and on towards Camden Town.

Come meal time if you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary Mari Vanna is a hub of undiscovered Russian cuisine. Located in the heart of Knightsbridge Mari Vanna specialises in "babushka cooking" and the menu of Russian dishes also features influences from other former Soviet countries. Entertainment is a must for Russians so live music is played regularly and there is a special room reserved for the kids from midday where they show screenings of Russian fairy tales and cartoons. Magicians and clowns often drop by also to do some face painting.

A hidden shopping gem is William Edwards which is available at Fortnum & Mason. If you’re looking to bring home something that is quintessentially British from your trip to London it's the perfect shop to visit. William Edwards is home to the finest bone china collections from England that are rich in heritage and perfect for everyday use. Designs can even be tailored to your personal taste. William Edwards are also highly successful within the within the bespoke exclusive commission sector, including commissions for The Prince of Wales.

Make sure to try out one of our recommended hidden gems or leave a comment if you have any of your own secret places in London to share.
