5ive Star London had the opportunity to meet with Olivia Von Halle, luxury nightwear brand designer and a true Londoner! Olivia von Halle is available at leading locations in London including Liberty, Harrods and Fortnum and Mason.
What inspired you to launch your own brand?
I was working as a trend forecaster in Shanghai, China and had the most incredible tailor. He was every girl’s wildest dream and could replicate Lanvin dresses from pages torn out of Vogue. One day I started fantasizing about how elegant it would be to have a beautiful pair of printed silk pyjamas to lounge around in when coming home from partying with friends. He made me a pair and I instantly became addicted to them and started wearing them all the time. Friends begged me to make them some and before I knew it I had an order list longer than my tailor could ever manage, so I decided to launch the Olivia von Halle brand.
How would you describe your brand in 5 words?
Glamorous, luxurious, chic, modern and relevant.
What is your favourite place in London and why?
I absolutely love Hampstead heath - I walk my boxer dog Bathtub there every day. It is 900 acres of wild countryside (without the troublesome sheep!) in the middle of London - it helps me feel connecting to my roots and watching the seasons change keeps me grounded. I grew up on a farm so stomping around the mud in my wellies is heaven to me.
Which is your favourite fashion brand and why?
Balenciaga is an incredible brand with such a rich history. It is an inspiring example of how a brand can stay fresh, modern and relevant whilst maintaining a strong connection to it's roots. Saddened as I am by Nicolas Ghesquière's departure I think Alexander Wang's new collection was a triumph and I am excited about his future at the brand.
What is your advice to a first time visitor to the Olivia von Halle brand?
We have an unusual sizing system which incorporates your height and dress size to ensure our lounging pyjamas fit perfectly. Our Lila pyjamas have become a classic and what we are known for and are a good place to start.
