Rococo Chocolates is one of London's best kept secrets with locations in Chelsea, Knighstbridge and Marleybone.

Chantal Coady, Founder and Owner of Rococo Chocolates made her first chocolate when she was barely 9 years old. Although she described that experience as a complete 'disaster', little did she know that a few years down the line she would be running a successful company selling luxurious handmade chocolates in the heart of London.

What sets Rococo apart from other chocolate companies?

My entire childhood passion and fantasy for chocolate is reflected in my company. I always wanted to bring the fairy tale image of a chocolate company to life. For me the emotional engagement with chocolate and our customers is the thing which sets the company apart. The past 30 years of running the company have taught me a lot. There are so many great chocolatiers out there like William Curley who are great colleagues. This helps us to raise our game.

How would you describe the chocolate industry today in London?

The London chocolate scene is amazing and full of talent, in fact I would say that there is no other capital that has the same quality and depth. There are pastry chefs that come from a disciplined background. This artisan/luxury sector of the industry is pushing boundaries and growing rapidly where mass market confectionery struggles to gain ground. Chocolate is being presented with great British wit, using unusual combinations of flavours and chocolate making an exciting place to be for all of us. We are world leaders, being watched by a global audience.

What's next for you?

I am launching my fifth book towards the end of this year. It has something for everyone. It is a combination of very simple and some complex recipes, technical chocolate making techniques and some savoury recipes as well. The rest of the year is for consolidation, preparing for Christmas and next Easter of course and spending my time behind the scenes training and supporting my team. The company has grown in a very organic way and my aim is to make sure we have the right systems in place to deliver outstanding customer service.

What do you do in your free time?

I spend time with my children and visit the local deli ITALO in Vauxhall. A recommendation for those in the area is to visit Brunswick House for a meal. I make sure to give myself some time everyday. I cycle, go to Pilates and spend time in the Portugese bit of London!

What is the connection between health and chocolate?

Chocolate is life enhancing. It is full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and polyphenols. It lowers bad cholesterol, blood pressure, and is low glycaemic. To get the maximum heath benefits you need to eschew milk chocolate in favour of really good dark chocolate, min 60% cocoa solids!

We invite you to come and visit our stores, sample some chocolate before you buy, we understand that the choice can be overwhelming so we are here to guide you. If you come to Motcomb St you can sample our hot chocolate or delicious tea and coffee in our garden and Salon de The. We look forward to your visit!
