London 2012 Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony for the London Olympic Games 2012 will take place on the 27th of July, with the worlds eyes on London this promises to be a spectacular ceremony with breathtaking sights, sounds and performances from world-renowned artists showcasing some of the UK's best creative talent. The opening ceremony for the iconic games originated from Ancient Games in Greece and has evolved over centuries.

 

The London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony will begin with the ringing of the biggest bell in Europe and will feature a tribute to the NHS, with a performance by hundreds of nurses. 10,000 athletes from 205 nations will then march into the Olympic Stadium behind their national flags. A spectacular show follows that culminates in the arrival of the Olympic Torch and the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron. The lighting of this flame marks the official start of the London Olympics, and for the next 16 days the world’s top athletes will be competing with all their might for one of over 4,000 Olympic medals on offer.  

The performances will celebrate London's culture and everything the capital has to offer. An ultra-talented team of executive producers will put on a show like no other. Creative director Stephen Daldry said the ceremonies will show "who we are, who we were and who we wish to be.’’

The ceremony, will begin at 9pm on July 27 (with the pre-show starting at 20.12), and is expected to last well over three hours, this will be a spectacular occasion and is one not to be missed.
