Wimbledon, or to give it its full title, The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is the oldest and most prestigious tennis court in the world. It makes upon of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments and is still the only major played on grass. Wimbledon is proud to boast that it gave the name ‘lawn tennis’ to the world of tennis.

The Championship, Wimbledon tournament takes place over two weeks in late June and early July, culminating with the Ladies' and Gentlemen's Singles Final, scheduled respectively for the second Saturday and Sunday.
Wimbledon is a venue steeped in tradition. This includes a strict dress code for competitors, the eating of strawberries and cream by the spectators, and Royal patronage. In addition, the tournament is also notable for the absence of sponsor advertising around the courts. The venue has however somewhat embraced the modern era and technology as in 2009, Wimbledon's Centre Court was fitted with a retractable rooftop prevent rain delaying and interrupting Centre Court matches during the tournament.

Another legacy that still lives on at Wimbledon is the wearing of white. Although dark green and purple are the traditional Wimbledon colours, all tennis players participating in the tournament are required to wear all-white or at least almost all-white clothing. Again the tournament has made steps in embracing new trends and currently wearing white clothing with some colour accents is also acceptable.
