The Comedy Theatre

The Comedy Theatre, (now known as the Harold Pinter Theatre) is  located on Patron Street is a West End theatre located in the City of Westminster.

Formally known as the Royal Comedy Theatre, which opened on 15 October 1881, the Comedy Theatre was designed by Thomas Verity and built in just six months in painted (stucco) stone and brick. The theatre underwent major reconstruction in the mid 1950’s and reopened in December 1955. The auditorium of the Comedy Theatre remains essentially the same as it was in 1881, with three tiers of horseshoe shaped balconies.

During the First World War the reputation of the Comedy Theatre grew due to the performances of C B Cochran and André Charlot famous review shows. Recent notable performances at the Comedy theatre include; Sunset Boulevard (4 December 2008 - 30 May 2009) by Andrew Lloyd Webber, directed by Craig Revel Horwood, Birdsong (28 September 2010 - 15 January 2011) based on the book by Sebastian Faulk starring Ben Barnes and The Children's Hour (22 January - 30 April 2011), Lillian Hellman’s play, starring Keira Knightley.
