The Aldwych Theatre

49 Aldwych, London WC2B 4DF

Designed by W.G.R. Sprague and opened in 1905 the Aldwych Theatre with its impressive capacity of 1200 seats has played host to a number of top musical theatre productions including Andrew Lloyd Webber's Whistle Down the Wind, Fame & since September 2006, the British musical version of Dirty Dancing.

The décor of this West End Theatre is a mixture of French and Georgian Baroque. The Aldwych Theatre was one of the most popular places of entertainment in London until 1933 as it became the home of English farce during the Great War. London’s Aldwych Theatre has hosted an assortment of plays, comedies and musical productions.
In December 1960 the Royal Shakespeare Company of Stratford-upon-Avon announced that they were going to base its London productions in the Aldwych Theatre for the next three years but in fact they stayed in the west end theatre for over 20 years. With the absence of the Royal Shakespeare Company the Aldwych theatre hosted the annual World Theatre Seasons.

On the 20th July 1971 the Aldwych theatre was listed as a Grade II Building. Suitably located near Covent Garden and Holburn tube stations in Aldwych in the City of Westminster the beautiful Aldwych Theatre is a must see London tourist attraction that is not to be missed. Book a ticket for the Stalls, Dress circle or Grand Circle of the stunning Aldwych Theatre Auditorium.
