Olympic Stadium

Olympic Park, London E20 2ST, United Kingdom

The London Olympic Stadium was the centerpiece of the 2012 Summer Olympics. This magnificent structure is located at Marshgate Lane in Stratford in the Lower Lea Valley in the hub of the Olympic Events venues; The London Olympic Stadium had the capacity for the games of approximately 80,000 making it the third largest stadium in Britain behind Wembley Stadium and Twickenham Stadium.

The stadium design was launched on 7 November 2007 by the architectural firm, Populous, who specializes in the design of sports facilities and convention centers, as well as planning of major special events. Construction lasted four years starting in 2007 up until its completion in 2011.

A lot of time and effort went into making this stadium truly unique and special for the games which have resulted in making The London 2012 Olympic Stadium the most sustainable stadium ever built. With the resource steel, in short supply, the build was made 75 per cent lighter in terms of steel use than other stadiums. Construction features of this stadium include low-carbon concrete, made from industrial waste and containing 40 per cent less embodied carbon than usual. This goes towards making the build of all London 2012 venues as environmentally friendly as possible.

This stadium saw a lot of action from a huge variety of sports and disciplines but one thing is for sure that your stay at any of these luxury five star hotels in London is incomplete without visiting The Olympic Stadium.
