The Horse Guards Parade provided a unique venue for the 2012 Olympic Games Beach
Volleyball Events. This historical venue also hosted the first of the London Polo
Championships back in 2009. Sand was brought in to create a beach within the political
centre of London. It was a temporary venue to host the Beach Volleyball events and it
is located quite close to Downing Street, the home of The British Prime Minister, with
security at this side of the venue naturally being very high. Temporary seating was
erected with one of the courts being able to hold up to 15,000 people. At this huge court
there was 4 floodlight towers at each of its corners and 2 tiers. The venue will also have
2 practice courts with another 6 practice courts at the oldest Royal Park in London,
St. James's Park.

Every year on the Queen’s birthday the venue hosts the Trooping the Colour event and
it is synonymous with London’s royal and political history. The venue will continue to be
a focal point of British history and politics and the Olympic Games added another
historical event to its fact sheet.
