Hadleigh Farm

Castle Lane, Benfleet, Essex SS7 2AP

Hadleigh Farm in Essex hosted the Mountain Bike events during the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. The venue was completed in 2011 and designed to be a challenging and demanding course for the competitors. Fans had great views of the biking events along the track and in the woodland. The course was temporary, with grandstands erected to hold 3,000 people. There are plans to leave a portion or smaller version of the mountain biking course on the site for use after the Games.
This historical venue is currently owned by the Salvation Army, used at the moment as an educational work farm. This amazing site overlooks Hadleigh Castle, built in 1230’s, and The Thames Estuary. The mountain biking course for the Olympics also crossed a section of Hadleigh Country Park. This was an interesting site to visit during the Mountain Biking Games as it was special scientifically with regards to invertebrates.

This fantastic event site is approximately 5 miles from London’s South end Airport. There were plans in place to widen Chapel Lane and Castle Lane in Hadleigh to improve access during the London Games.
