Eton Manor

Quartermile Ln, London, Greater London E15 2FB

Eton Manor hosted the 2012 London Olympic Wheelchair Tennis competition. Eton Manor was established at the turn of the 20th Century as a community sporting facility for the Eton Manor Boys’ Club and quickly gained a strong reputation as an exceptional sporting association.

Many former members of the club fought during the First and Second World Wars and as a tribute to their sacrifice, a war memorial is present on the site. As part of the construction work for the London 2012 Olympics, the memorial was restored.

Located in the northernmost area of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, for the duration of the Olympic Games, Eton Manor provided temporary training pool facilities for participants in the Olympic Aquatic events. There were three 50m pools for swimmers, and smaller pools for other water sports such as Synchronised Swimming and Water Polo.

For the Paralympic Games which followed the Olympic Games, Eton Manor hosted Wheelchair Tennis and continued as a training facility for Aquatics competitors. For the tennis there was nine competition courts and four separate warm-up courts. Seating for 10,500 spectators was available with the show court alone holding 5,000 spectators.

Once the Games were over it was planned that Eton Manor will provide the local community with a extensive variety of sports facilities including a tennis centre with ten courts, a hockey centre with two competition pitches and numerous five-a-side soccer pitches.
