The Basketball Area for the London 2012 Olympics is located in the north end of
Olympic Park.

It took under 2 years to build, incorporates a 1,000 tonne steel frame structure
and is one of the largest temporary arenas ever built for an Olympic Games. The
venue was used for both the Basketball and Handball competitions.

To accommodate the Handball competition, the features of the Basketball courts
such as posts had to be removed and replaced with handball goals and flooring, all
in the space of 22 hours. A similar transformation will took place during the
Paralympic Games with the Wheelchair Rugby following on 12 hours after the
Wheelchair Basketball. Behind the scenes, backroom areas for temporary
accommodation, catering, security and the media were shared with the BMX Track
and Velodrome to maximise space and resources.

There were no long term plan for the Basketball Arena and it was taken
down directly after the Games.
