The International Design & Architecture Awards Ceremony 2013 will be held at The Hurlingham Club, London, on Friday 20th September and René Dekker Design Limited will compete for the residential £2.5-5 million award in the International Design and Architecture Awards 2013, with two different projects, one an elegant mansion flat in Kensington and the other an incredible property in St Georges Hill, Surrey.

The first project was a full refurbishment to a listed building and required a scholarly approach in order to conform to its historical status. Fire surrounds were carefully picked from the Chesneys Antique collection, mouldings were painstakingly restored and doors were faithfully reproduced, creating a contemporary homage to the apartment’s glorious past. Decorations included specialist plaster finishes as well as linen and grass cloth wall coverings.

This is a statement home with input by each member of the family for their own spaces. The use of the same floor throughout mixed with unique pieces in the different areas has created an eclectic yet fluid space. The final interior design includes several new bathrooms, bespoke joinery, new decorative and task lighting, new kitchen, plumbing, heating and wiring.

The second client wanted minimal building work done to the house but requested new lighting throughout and bespoke wardrobes to all bedrooms. They also wanted a complete makeover to lift the tired interior. Whilst they were after a chic and luxurious feel, it also had to suit their four children and this balance was achieved through the décor.

In the adult areas, the walls were hung with fine silk wall paper whilst in the breakfast room and the childrens’ bedrooms, high quality vinyl wall coverings were used which gave the appearance of grass cloth and silk, with the benefit of easy maintenance. Finally, the soft furnishings completed the scheme using a neutral and fairly limited palette to create a flow throughout this family home.

We wish the very best of luck to René Dekker Design and are waiting for the awards with great anticipation.
