Coming to the V&A this September 21st ‘Pearls’ the exhibition will take place until 19th January 2014. The V&A and the Qatar Museums Authority explore the history of pearls from the early Roman Empire through to present day and visitors are welcome to experience the beauty and allure of pearls which across centuries and cultures have long been associated with wealth, royalty and glamour.

On display at the exhibition will be a stunning array of pearl jewellery showcasing the variety of shapes and colours of the pearl from established favourites such as Bulgari, Cartier, Chaumet, René Lalique and Tiffany, through to contemporary artist jewellers. The unusual exhibition will also look at the creation of cultured pearls through Mikimoto and the impact this has had.

You are sure to be astounded by this fantastic exhibition, with some of the highlights including rare natural specimens, Mary Queen of Scots’ necklace, a group of magnificent tiaras worn by European royalty, delicate art nouveau and striking art deco pieces and even a pair of pearl drop earrings owned by Elizabeth Taylor. Painted portraits and photographs provide the backdrop to document the fashion for wearing pearls and their symbolism in East and West. Make sure that you don’t miss out.

For those with a sweet tooth why not visit Lokum Istanbul for some luxury Turkish Delight, only minutes around the corner situated on Walton Street.
