Wimbledon 2013

The 2013 Wimbledon Tennis Tournament kicks of on the 24th of June and will run for two weeks. The 127th tournament will be staged at the All England Club. The championship have being staged here since the very first tournament in 1877.

Considered one of the most prestigious tennis leagues in Europe the 2013 Wimbledon tournament will see players form over 60 different countries come to compete in the 5 main Championship events. With two weeks of classic tennis the 2013 tennis tournament is set to attract thousands of travellers from across the globe. Appearance form the Royal family are also expected at this years events. The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet club organised the first Wimbledon event in an effort to raise money and funds for the club in 1887 with 22 male participants competing in the event.

Today Wimbledon is the last remaining Grand Slam tournament to be contested on grass and is widely regarded as the most prestigious of the four Gran Slam events. There are a number of timeless rituals that add to the tournaments unique character, patrons enjoy strawberry and cream as they watch the tournaments, players are required to adhere to the all white dress code and there is a mandated day of rest on the first (middle) Sunday of the championship.

The 2013 tournament begins the 24th of June, with matches taking place each day - expect the middle Sunday the mandated day of rest – until the tournament concludes on the 7th of July. The Grounds are scheduled to open at 10:30am each day with courts 2-19 play is provisionally scheduled to start at 11.30am for at least the first eight days of the tournament. On Centre Court play will start at 1.00pm except on the final two days when play will start at 2.00pm. It is advised that people check the daily order of play. In the first week the early rounds of the Gentlemen's, Ladies' and Mixed Doubles will be played on all courts.
