Chinese New Year at BFI Southbank

The film screenings for Chinese New Year at BFI Southbank take place from Saturday 9th February - Monday 11th February 2013. Mark Chinese New Year by watching three films that cast new light on China and Chinese culture and history.

With three Chinese films being screened to mark the start of the Year of the Snake, fans of world cinema will have lot’s to celebrate for the Chinese New Year. Screenings begin with She, a Chinese, a modern film about a young Chinese girl who moves from her remote Chinese home to Europe where she encounters Western consumerism.

Some other film screenings taking place for Chinese New Year at BFI Southbank include The Opium War, a historical drama about the first Opium War where British sea power was used in the opium trade. The final film is a seniors' free matinee screening of Ping Pong, a surreal story that takes place in London's Chinatown and depicts the East and West culture clash.

In addition to the film screenings for Chinese New Year at BFI Southbank, there are many other events taking place across London to celebrate the Year of the Snake. Be it the free festival in Trafalgar Square or special menus at restaurants across the city, you are guaranteed to have an eventful time.
