When we discovered Gillian Anderson Price, we were thrilled to find a boutique in the heart of Mayfair filled with so many curiosities and gems. Gillian moved to Mayfair recently after being based near Primrose Hill for the past few years.
Gillian has been a part of some amazing initiatives including a show on Discovery Chanel. A Londoner at heart, we had a chance to talk to her about her work and London life!
How did you start?
Family business. My parents were antiques dealers in New York in the 1960s through early 1980's then my mother and I moved to the North of England and my mum eventually in 1989 went back to having an antiques shop. I had a brief affair with the fashion industry before returning to the fold in the late 1990s.
5 Words that describe your work?
Exciting, interesting, unpredictable, educational,vocational
What is your advice to a newcomer to London? What are your favourite areas and curiosities?
Be nice to people and they will be nice back. London is a big city but it is also a village, many villages in fact. Go out and explorethem all. I love Mayfair where my shop is and I love Chelsea and Belgravia. Elizabeth Street in Belgravia is a moment's walk from my house, it's a charming street of pretty and diverse shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes.
Could you tell us a bit more about your show on Discovery Channel?
"Dealers" was a TV series I and the other dealers all enjoyed making hugely. The set was built inside an airplane hangar and so it was extremely cold but the diverse items and vendors who passed through were colourful and at times challenging. I wish the Discovery Channel would make another series!
