The Proms 2012 the world’s greatest classical music festival will take place from the 13 of July to the 8th of September 2012. The BBC Proms festival will be very much part of the London 2012 games. The 2012 BBC Proms programme is packed with world premieres, beloved classics and internationally renowned musicians. The Proms festival will also have a host of talks, workshops, free performances and family events. Bringing together great orchestras, ensembles, soloists and artists from across the globe, the season culminates with the world famous Last Night of the Proms.  

On the opening day of the Olympics, 27 July, Daniel Barenboim will lead the West Eastern Divan Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven 9, the culmination of his complete Beethoven Symphony cycle. The concerts in the cycle will also feature significant works by living French composer Pierre Boulez, one of the most influential figures in contemporary music for the past sixty years.

The key highlights of the 2012 Classical Music Festival will include Proms in the Park celebrations which will take place in on the 8th of September in Hyde Park and promises to be one of the year’s musical highlights with headline performances from Kylie Minogue. There will also be performances from Alfie Boe, Il Divo and the London Community Gospel Choir, presented by Sir Terry Wogan. Early evening entertainment will also be provided from acts such as Björn Again, the Chicago Blues Brothers, and the BBC Big Band.  

All BBC Proms programmes are broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and many are televised on BBC TV, streamed live online via BBC iPlayer and available to listen to or watch again online for seven days.
