Johnstons of Elgin, Scotland’s leading luxury textile manufacturer, open the new Hawick cashmere Visitor Centre, café and retail outlet at their Eastfield Mills site on Friday 25 May 2012. Johnstons of Elgin are known for their extraordinary cashmere and beautiful tweed products, Johnstons has been manufacturing in Elgin since 1797. Their history is one of quality, resilience and above all outstanding provenance.  

The visitor centre is 3,600 sq ft of retail space and information and displays on the history of Johnstons of Elgin. Their launch will be the first to showcase the new Johnstons of Elgin film which tells the story of the brand and of the unique processes of the Johnstons of Elgin mill - the only Scottish mill to carry out all processes from fibre to finished garment.  

Johnstons of Elgin is a unique company with over 200 years of experience. The Johnstons of Elgin mill shop and visitor centre in Elgin is now a luxury retail business. Johnstons of Elgin set up business in Hawick 28 years ago with 8 employees and now employs 250 on the site. The retail shop will stock Johnstons of Elgin knitwear, tweed products, including cashmere and tweed jackets for men and ladies, and accessories as well as the new Johnstons of Elgin Home collection. Mill tours will be available to demonstrate the skills that are encapsulated in the manufacture of luxury cashmere products.  

Johnsons of Elgin is the only mill in Scotland to take cashmere from fibre to fabric, and is the relied upon manufacturer for international fashion brands and Saville Row tailors alike. The cashmere is dyed, teased, carded, spun and hand-finished by the latest generation of craftsmen..   Johnstons of Elgin also have a number of flagship stores in London and can be bought at Harrods, Liberty, Selfridges, Fenwicks and Fortnum and Mason.
