The Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition takes place from Friday 19th October 2012 - Sunday 3rd March 2013, this year, in the Natural History Museum, attracting amateur and professional photographers of all ages from around the world. One of the most prestigious and innovative photography competitions of its kind, the 2012 Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition showcases the very best in photographic images of the natural world.
The best photos are chosen to appear in an annual exhibition, which opens at London's Natural History Museum before going on tour. The images provide a stunning and thought-provoking insight into the natural world, from underwater scenes to urban wildlife.
With amazing images of wildlife including animals, birds, plants, trees, insects and the natural landscape, this exhibition is a stunning collection of the work produced by the world's best photographers. Last year over 134,000 people visited the Wildlife Photographer exhibition, and an even larger turnout is expected this year. Having grown in popularity over the past 48 years, this yearly collection of beautiful photographs has now grown to have contributions from around the world.
Visitors of the exhibition are given an excellent insight into the beauty, drama and variety of the natural world, the photographs that are on show highlight the some of the skills of the most talented photographers but also reminds the onlooker of the amazing wonder of the animals and wildlife that surrounds us. The stunning images are on display at the Natural History Museum until the beginning of March 2013 and are then toured around the UK and many other parts of the world, allowing the photos to be seen in their native homes.
Visitors to the exhibition can experience an interactive installation, so both kids and families can find out what the judges thought of the photos and hear from scientists and the photographers themselves about the subject matter of the photographs. They will also have the chance to vote for their own personal favourite image from the exhibition and choose from a selection of prints to take home.
