Theatre Royal Haymarket

The Theatre Royal Haymarket or Haymarket Theatre is a West End Theatre in the Haymarket, City of Westminster. The original building was a bit further north in the Haymarket Street. In 1821 John Nash redesigned it and since then the venue is at its current location. The Venue was designed and constructed in 1720 by John Potter.

This West End Theatre was originally known as “The Little Theatre in the Hay”. This West End Theatre got its Royal Patent in 1766.Theatre Royal Haymarket is one of the most significant theatres in Britain both historically and architecturally.

The Theatre Royal Haymarket has hosted some of the most celebrated events in London’s West End and has being home to some of London’s most memorable West End productions. Oscar Wilde premiered A Woman of No Importance in 1983 in the Royal Haymarket Theatre, his first comedy, in 1993 the play returned for a production directed by Adrian Noble.

The Theatre Royal Haymarket is Grade I listed building by English Heritage and has a seating capacity of 888 people. In 1994 1.3 million pounds was spent in a major refurbishment of the theatre. Despite this, in May 2004 the central chandelier in the auditorium came away from the ceiling during a performance. Nobody was too seriously injured. But the Royal Haymarket theatre was closed for two nights and a couple of performances where cancelled. Currently this West End London theatre is currently hosting Bill Kenwright''s A Man For All Seasons starring Martin Shaw.
