St Pancras

Euston Road, London N1C 4QL

St Pancras International in central London, famed for its Victorian architecture has been described as the “worlds most wonderful train station”. It underwent massive redevelopment during the 2000’s costing approximately 800 million pounds and it is now an international station serving the Eurostar line with a High Speed 1 and the Channel Tunnel. The no stop train to Paris takes up to 2 hours 15 minutes to arrive. The newly restored station has 15 platforms a shopping centre and a bus station. The station has often been referred to as the “cathedral of railways” due to its iconic Victorian architecture and resemblance to a traditional cathedral. The station is situated nearby to many of Londons tourist attractions such as the British Library and Regents Canal. The station consists of four groups of platforms located on two levels. The station houses a 30ft bronze statue called the Meeting Place, which has caused some controversy since it was erected. The station also houses a statue of the poet Sir John Betjeman, who was involved in a campaign to save the station from being demolished in the 1960s. At the foot of the statue the words of his poem “Cornish Cliffs” are inscribed. During the 2012 London Olympics the station will be the terminal for the Olympic Javelin a 7 minute shuttle service providing the fans with access to Central London form the Olympic Park and vice versa.
