Prince Edward Theatre

The Prince Edward Theatre named after Prince Edward the Prince of Wales is located on Old Compton Street, just north of Leicester Square, in the City of Westminster.

Edward A. Stone designed this West End Theatre in 1930 and it opened its doors in 1930. In 1935 this West End Theatre was converted to a dance and cabaret hall with the Theatre being renamed the ‘London Casino’ In 1954 it was converted to a cinema, opening as the Casino Cinerama Theatre, it wasn’t until 1978 that it was converted back to a West End Theatre by RHWL Architects. The Theatre was giving back its original name Prince Edward Theatre and opened with the world premiere of Evita the musical. In 1992 further renovations took place, whereby they increased the size of the stage.

The Prince Edward Theatre in London plays host to the award winning Broadway smash hit musical Jersey Boys; other productions include Chess, Mamma Mia and Mary Poppings. Prince Edward Theatre is today one of the most popular West End Theatres and is now owned by the Delfont Mackintosh group and this magnificent theatre has a seating capacity of 1,618.
