Garrick Theatre

The Garrick Theatre a Grade 2 listed West End theatre, is located on Charing Cross Road, just of Leicester Square in the City of Westminster. This West End theatre opened its doors on the 24th of April 1889 under the management of playwright W.S.Gilbert. The Garrick theatre was named after an extraordinary Shakespearean actor, David Garrick he was considered to one of influential actors.

In 1968 the Garrick Theatre along with a number of other theatres in Londons West End were under threat with the proposed redevelopment of Covent Garden by the GLC. In its early years, The Garrick Theatre appears to have been associated with comedies or comedy-dramas. More recent productions include No Sex Please, We're British (1982), which played for four years at the theatre. On the 24th of October 1995 An Inspector Calls by J. B. Priestley opened in this West End Theatre. It was the Royal National Theatre's multi-award winning production having played a number of successful seasons at the Royal National Theatre's Lyttelton, Olivier theatres, the Aldwych Theatre and on Broadway.

In 1986 the Stoll Moss Group acquired the Garrick Theatre, fourteen years later, in 2000, it became a Really Useful Theatre when Andrew Lloyd-Webber purchased Stoll Moss Theatres Ltd. In October 2005, Nica Burns and Max Weitzenhoffer purchased the Venue, and it became one of five playhouses operating under the Nimax Theatres Ltd name. This London theatre has a seating capacity for 656 patrons over three levels this according to West End standards is a relatively small theatre. When the Garrick Theatre first opened in April 1889 the auditorium was able to seat 800 patrons but due to the closure of the gallery has the Garrick Theatre can only now seat 656 patrons.
