The Fortune Theatre is located in Russell Street near Covent Garden in London, this London theatre stands on the site of the old Albion Tavern.

The Fortune Theatre is known as '' most intimate of theatres''. The Theatre had its grand opening on Saturday, 8th November 1924. It was the first London theatre to be built after World War I. Its opening play was Sinners by Lauence Cowen, unfortunately it only ran for two weeks.

The Fortune Theatre for many years was privately owned, in December 2001 it became part of the Ambassador Theatre Group and joined the groups nine other West End theatres
With the West End Fortune Theatre only having 432 seats it is believed to be the second smallest West End theatre.  English Heritage listed this London Theatre as a Graded II listed theatre in May 1994.

In 2005 it hosted the long running play The Woman in Black which has become a West End legend. This enigmatic play first was presented at The Fortune in 1989. July 2001 The Fortune Theatre celebrated 5000 performances of The Woman in Black with a huge party held in the Stalls Bar. Variety stars has performed on the Fortune’s stage: Judi Dench, Dirk Bogarde and Maureen Lipman, Alan Bennett, Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and Jonathan Miller.
