St Martin's Lane, London WC2N 4BG

The Duke of York’s Theatre is located on St Martins Lane in London’s West End. This West End Theatre was built for Frank Wyatt and his wife. The theatre was previously known as the Trafalgar Square Theatre and in 1894 later became known as the Trafalgar Theatre. In 1894 became known as the Duke of York's Theatre to honour the future King George V.

The production of Go Bang was one of the earliest musical comedies success stories at The Duke of York’s Theatre in 1894. J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up debuted on 27 December 1904 at this West End Theatre. Many famous British actors have appeared in the Duke of York’s Theatre, including Basil Rathbone, who played Alfred de Mussett in Madame Sand in 1920, returning in November 1932 as the Unknown Gentleman in Tonight or Never.

In late 1970s the West End Theatre was bought by Capital Radio. After being refurbished, it reopened in February 1980.  The first production under the management of Capital Radio was Rose with Glenda Jackson.  A long list of successful performances include Al Pacino in David Mamet's American Buffalo, Richard Harris in Stepping Out and Willy Russell in Shirley Valentine.

The Duke of York’s was listed as a Grade II theatre by English Heritage in September 1960 with a seating capacity for 640 people. In 1992 the Ambassador Theatre Group took over this West End Theatre, today the Duke of York’s Theatre is the London headquarters of the Ambassador Theatre Group.
