St Mary’s is a general acute hospital located in Paddington offering a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for adult and paediatric conditions.

The hospital is operated by the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust which is the largest NHS trust in England employing over 10,000 medical and administration staff.
It is also a teaching hospital affiliated to the Imperial College London.

St Mary’s operate a full 24-hour emergency department (A&E) as well as a dedicated children’s A&E department.

The hospital also incorporates the world renowned Jefferiss Wing sexual health clinic, a prominent site in the treatment and care of people with sexual health problems such as HIV and AIDS.

St Mary’s is leading the field in the use of robotic surgery. It was the first site in the UK with a da Vinci robot for use in keyhole surgery.

Many notable people were born in St Mary maternity unit including Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge and his brother Prince Harry. Princess Anne, the Princess Royal also chose St Mary’s to give birth to her two children Peter and Zara Phillips.

The hospital has been treating the people of London since it first opened in 1851. In 1928, Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin in his laboratory here at St Mary’s Hospital and went on to win the Nobel Prize for his work in the field. The laboratory has since been restored to its original 1928 condition and is open to the public as part of the Fleming Museum within the hospital itself.
