Waterloo Station

Waterloo, London SE1 8SW

Waterloo Station also known as London Waterloo is owned and operated by Network Rail and is in Travelcard Zone 1. Waterloo is the UK’s busiest railway station and one of the busiest passenger terminals in Europe. Waterloo International had the Eurostar terminal until 2007 but it has since moved to St Pancras international and the former Eurostar platforms have remain unused. It is however the central terminal for Heathrow Airport. The area took its name from the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 and the name of the station caused controversy when the Eurostar line operated out of it. The Parisian councillor wrote to the British Prime Minister asking for the name to be changed as it was upsetting for French tourists to be entering a place named after Napoleons greatest defeat. This notion was however not acknowledged and the name remained.
