The Royal Artillery Barracks

The Royal Artillery Barracks was the venue for Shooting, Paralympic Shooting and Paralympic Archery during the London 2012 Games. Located on the London port of Woolwich, this site has a long military history and the construction of the current Royal Artillery Barracks buildings began in 1776. . It is famous for having the longest continuous building facade in the UK as well as for having the largest parade square of any UK barracks.

 

Besides the Royal Artillery Barracks is the site that is home to the Royal Arsenal complex, it was here that the British Government's principal armaments manufacturing facility for over 200 years. Construction began on the temporaryvenue in May 2011.

 

The Royal Artillery Barracks provided a stunning backdrop for the all the events hosted during the Olympics 2012 as initially the original idea was to hold the shooting in the National Shooting Centre at Bisley in Surrey, but after extensive discussions and debate the plan was changed after the International Olympic Committee expressed their concerns and reservations about the number of sports which London proposed to stage outside the city.

 

How ever it is in no doubt that by now bringing these events in London and in close proximity to these luxury five star hotels will let the spectator truly engage and behold the tradition and history of the British Army and the spectacle that was The Olympics London 2012.
