The Mall

Buckingham Palace – Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 5DN

The Mall is yet another world famous location in set in the heart of London. This historical road in London runs all the way from Buckingham Palace at its western end to Admiralty Arch and on to Trafalgar Square at its eastern end. The Mall then crosses Spring Gardens, which was where the Metropolitan Board of Works and, for a number of years, the London County Council was based.

The Mall was initially created as a ceremonial route in early 20th century Britain based on the creation of similar ceremonial routes in other cities such as Berlin, Mexico City etc.

One of its unique features, that make it so different in London, is that the street is closed to traffic on Sundays and public holidays and on ceremonial occasions.

For The Olympics London 2012 this street originally intended as a ceremonial route around London but after discussion it was decided that it would host the Olympic Cycling Races as well as the Olympic Marathon. Large quantities of temporary seating, scoreboards and other facilities were placed in for the duration of the Games.

The Mall continued as a world renowned tourist destination after the 2012 Olympics and also acts as part of the route for the London Marathon on a yearly basis. The Mall, steeped in history and celebration is well worth a visit whilst staying in one of London’s finest five star restaurants.
