The Olympic and Paralympic Village consists of 2,818 self contained apartments which were built in 11 residential plots and include many large open spaces such as spacious courtyards, gardens and balconies. Located in the Olympic Park the village is within easy walking distance of the venues, ideal for both athletes and officials.

Construction work commenced on the Village in June 2008 and was completed In January 2012. Over the course of the Olympic fortnight and Paralympic Games the village accommodated thousands of athletes and officials, along with retail outlet, restaurants, medical centres and leisure facilities.
A central 'Village Plaza’ forms part of the village where athletes could meet with friends and family. The architectural plans have ensured that the English tradition of building homes around communal spaces along with attractive water features is retained.

The aspect of the apartments ensured that Athletes had an inspirational view over Olympic Park during their stay. Each apartment has comfortable accommodation and state-of-the-art communications facilities, with internet access and wireless networking a standard. To accommodate people of all abilities, the apartment blocks are fully accessible and feature modern lifts.

It only takes 7 minutes to travel from the Village to the centre of London using the high speed 1 Javelin® shuttle service. Access to the Stratford City complex is only a short walk from the Olympic village also.
The Village left a lasting positive legacy on this area of East London long after the Games were completed. It will be transformed into 2,800 new homes, with almost half being designated as affordable homes.
This new urban community will benefit from permanent transport links, new parks and community facilities in the years after the Games are finished.
