Victoria Palace Theatre

Victoria St, London SW1E 5EA

Built at the same time as Victoria Station in 1886 the magnificent Victoria Palace Theatre is located in the heart of London’s West End on Victoria Street, opposite Victoria Station. Frank Matcham designed the Victoria Palace Theatre and this West End Theatre opened its doors in 1911 on the site of two music hall buildings which had both been demolished

Throughout numerous restorations the Victoria Palace Theatre has retained much of its original character. Recently the facade, canopy and cupola have been restored to their former glory and remain similar to as it was in 1911. The Victoria Palace Theatre’s splendid auditorium with its 1550 seats is fully-air conditioned using a wonderful sliding roof, a predecessor of modern air-conditioning. A replica of an earlier original statue of prima ballerina Anna Pavlova was reinstated to its original pedestal above the cupola of the Victoria Palace Theatre in 2006. The original statue was placed in the theatre in 1911 by the then owner Alfred Butt, in homage to the dancer whom he has famously brought to London.

Recent shows at the Victoria Palace Theatre have included; Grease (2 October 2002 - 6 September 2003) starring Ben Richards and Lee Latchford-Evans, Tonight's the Night (7 November 2003 - 9 October 2004) and the outstanding Billy Elliot the Musical (11 May 2005 - present) by Lee Hall, starring Tim Healy and Sally Dexter.
