St Patrick’s Day is a huge celebration of Irish heritage and 2014 is no different with parades, events and parties planned right across the great city of London for this special day that takes place on 17th March.

The 17th marks the date of Saint Patrick's death back in 461 A.D., a man who was the patron saint of Ireland responsible for bringing Christianity to the land and, mythically, for driving snakes from Ireland too!

With nearly 4/5 of Londoners claiming Irish heritage St Patrick’s Day is a big annual event in the capital and at the heart of it, Trafalgar Square, a free festival will take place to commemorate the day and to paint the town green, although this will be taking place on 16th March this year. Over 100,000 people are expected to attend the event this time round and with a live rendition of the mesmerising Irish “Riverdance” as well as entertainment from The Commitments, The London Harp Orchestra and more, it’s no wonder why so many celebrate this day every year. The festivities take place from midday with the Irish Food Market until closing at around 6pm on Sunday 16th.

On the day itself, the 17th, The London Irish Centre is hosting a Patrick’s Day party. Located in Camden Square, the event will include all things Irish with music and a trad session amongst other entertainment for everyone.

With so many popular Irish bars and restaurants scattered around London, you can be sure that all will be very busy on this day so go on and don your greenest clothes, enjoy the craic with a pint of the black stuff for St Patrick’s Day in London this year!
