One of our favourite jewelers of Hatton Garden and Britain’s finest, Patrick Wyatt, shared his thoughts on Christmas 2013 and how he is looking forward to celebrating it!
‘'December is of course the very busiest time of the year for us. Right up to
Christmas Eve we have fraught men of all ages ringing us up asking if we
have something suitable for their girlfriend/partner or wife! That is why we
start making individual pieces of all values back in October and November.
My Christmas break normally starts at 9pm on Christmas Eve when I arrive
home and become the fraught man looking for a wedding present for my wife!
It's the one opportunity of the year when everything comes to a halt, the
wonderful madness of London life slows to a stop. The log fire is lit, the
cats think that the Christmas wrapping paper is purely for their enjoyment
and destruction and the Rumptopf that I've been making from the fruit from
my allotment since Spring is poured in to expectant glasses.
Being a country boy, I love growing vegetables and so we will be enjoying
the fruits of that labour throughout the Christmas break. It tastes so much
better and reminds me of my idylic days in the Kentish countryside.
The other great thing about being a jeweller is that no one needs you until
well in to January. That's when I get a few calls and emails from men who
have had a fabulous break and decided that yes, they really can spend their
life with the girl in front of them.....that's when my year starts again and
that's why I love what I do. It's always about love.’’
